(PEOPLE.com) -- The single word on the bracelet worn by Patrick Schwarzenegger on Tuesday could sum up the summer for his family: "Survivor."

After a highly public rough patch for the Schwarzeneggers, the newly popular billboard model and eldest son of the former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and his estranged wife Maria Shriver, like the rest of his family, is pushing on.

"Everyone is doing well, really well," the hunky 17-year-old tells PEOPLE. "My brother has recovered [from his surfing accident], he's healthy, and we're all enjoying the last few days of summer."

This summer saw not only 13-year-old Christopher's July surf mishap and hospitalization, but also Shriver's filing for divorce.

Fortunately, Patrick finds it easy to focus on matters beyond family issues.

"Work takes your mind off other things," he says. "I've spent a lot of time working, and also I have school during the year, so I'm booked up during the day. My mind is usually thinking about those things."

Besides entering his senior year of high school, Patrick is also the cofounder of Project360, a clothing line focused on raising social awareness and giving a portion of its proceeds to various charities.

The clothing line -- sold at http://www.teamproject360.com/418/content.aspx, along with its accessories -- was on display at this week's Project fashion show in Las Vegas.

"We try to spread the message of being charitable and giving back," he says. "You can wear clothing and live your daily lifestyle while also giving back."
