Bengals mum on Palmer plans

Cincinnati Bengals owner Mike Brown was at one point adamant he wouldn't move his disgruntled quarterback. [Brown] declined comment Tuesday about whether the team has plans to trade quarterback Carson Palmer before next week's trade deadline. "I don't have a thing to say about that," Brown said. ... Palmer is currently out of football, holding true to his pledge to retire if he isn't traded. Brown hasn't given in to Palmer's demand and said in the preseason that the Bengals consider Palmer to be retired. The Bengals retain Palmer's rights since he is under contract, meaning he can't play for another team unless he is traded or released. The NFL's trade deadline is Tuesday, Oct.18. (NFL.com) Comment

One wonders why we haven't heard this earlier. Amar'e Stoudemire said [Tuesday] night if the NBA lockout wipes out the season, he believes the players will form their own league instead of trying to catch on in Europe. "If we don't go to Europe, we're going to start our own league, that's how I see it," the Knicks forward said. "It's very serious. It's a matter of us strategically coming up with a plan, a blueprint and putting it together. So we'll see how this lockout goes. If it goes one or two years, we've got to start our own league." Stoudemire, who spoke at the 34th street Foot Locker where he debuted his new Nike Air Max shoe, declined to say if there's financial backing in place. (New York Post) Comment

Soon, perhaps Sidney Crosby can toss the no-contact helmet in practice. Crosby, who is mending from a concussion that occurred more than nine months ago, continues to show signs that his recovery is accelerating rapidly. He accidentally was knocked down by assistant coach Tony Granato during a drill without incident, and he said again he has had no concussion-related symptoms since training camp began Sept. 17. "It's never fun watching (games), but it's nice to be getting closer and it's nice being out there and going hard and I haven't had anything that's really worried me," he said.
